January News !

Welcome Back !
The next few weeks are going to be very exciting in the library.  Everyone is gearing up for our "I Love to READ!" week.  Notes went home this week to k-3rd graders about our Valentine's Box Decorating Contest, Story Maps and Characters on Parade activities.  This week is the deadline for 4-5-6th graders to choose a book and project so I can give out the rubrics.

Please see the I Love to Read link for more details !

Here is an overview of our plans for the week:

Monday 14th:
4-5-6th graders have literacy projects due to Mrs. Taylor (they may turn them in early if they wish)
k-3 Valentine's Day Box decorating contest-- optional/prizes will be awarded
Book Swap-- students may bring in up to 3 gently used books from the 14-18th…we will have the swap the next week after I get them organized.
Lunch menu (we are planning on having special literature based menu for the week)….
Book Talks (we plan on having kids and teachers give quick book talks for the morning news)
Reading Challenge:  (if we can read a total of 2000 books during the week…Mrs. Johnson will do something silly during the assembly on Friday…like kiss a pig, do the chicken dance, etc…still working on that!)…I'm working on reading logs to keep track of the number of books read.

Tues 15- Wed 16th-Thurs17th
Guest Readers:  We are asking each teacher to schedule at least one guest reader to visit your class on one of these days.

Friday 18th
Characters on Parade: all students/staff may dress as a favorite book character and we will have an assembly that afternoon to show off the costumes. (k-3…I've asked them to read a book and fill out a storymap if they plan on dressing up…the maps are due by Feb. 7th…my plan is to have them share the maps with the class during library classes that week.  4-6th--their costume must come from the book they use for the project due the 14th)
Book Bowl-- academic team style trivia contest based on literature !  We will do this during the assembly…Mr. Wilson will be our reader and several teachers have volunteered to compete !
