I Love to Read Week Feb. 13-17th
I Love to READ ! week
Feb. 13-17th
HCES families:
We are so excited to have our “I Love to Read!” week activities Feb. 13-17th. Below are some details about the week.
- Reading Logs- each student will record what they read from Feb. 10-16th. If we can read a total of 2300 books or more, Mrs. Johnson will perform a silly stunt during our assembly on Friday the 17th. Use notebook paper to write down each book you read and give the totals to your teacher each day.
- 4th-6th grade projects- Intermediate students have literacy projects due Feb. 14th. Choices were sent home in December and each student received a grading scale/instructions before Christmas. Remember to turn in grading scale with your project. You may begin turning in projects on Feb. 8th.
- Contest- k-3rd grade students can enter a Storybook Valentine’s Day Box decorating contest. Boxes are due to the homeroom teachers by 8:00 a.m. Feb. 14th for judging. Prizes will be awarded !
- Book Swap- Students may bring in up to 3 gently used books Feb. 13-16th for a book swap. Only bring books you don’t want to get back. The books must be in good shape and age appropriate (picture books for primary and chapter books for intermediate). You will trade books—you won’t get your books back! Bring your books to library class Feb. 13-16th then you’ll be called to the library to pick out your “new to you” books.
- Guest Readers- classes will be inviting guest readers throughout the week.
- Characters on Parade- students may dress as a book character on Friday the 17th. Please NO MASKS OR WEAPONS. The parade will start at 1:30 in the gym.
- Menu- we will have a special lunch menu for Feb. 13-17th based on children’s books. See the posters near the cafeteria and February lunch menu!
These activities are designed to share the love of reading and explore as many books as possible. Please read with your child each day and encourage them to participate in the “I Love to READ !” week activities.
Thank you,
Tracy Taylor
