I Love to Read Week Feb. 11-15th

I Love to READ ! week
Feb. 11-15th

HCES families:

We are so excited to have our “I Love to Read!” week activities Feb. 11-15th.  Below are some details about the week.  You can also visit our website for details --
http://hceslibrary-ttaylor.blogspot.com  Please contact Mrs. Taylor if you have any questions.

  • Reading Logs- each student will record what they read from Feb. 9-15th.  The goal for the week is to read a total of 2500 books.  (Watch for a special surprise during the Character Parade if we meet the goal!)  Use notebook paper to write down each book you read and give the totals to your teacher each day.
  • 4th-6th grade projects- Intermediate students have literacy projects due Feb. 11th.  Choices were sent home in December and each student received a grading scale/instructions in January. Remember to turn in the grading scale with your project.  You may begin turning in projects on Feb. 6th.
  • Contests
    • Classes will compete with a literature based door decorating contest.  Classroom doors will be judged and the winning classes (one from k-2 and one from 3-6) will have a party in the library.
    • 3-6th grade classes will have an Accelerated Reader challenge—the class taking the most tests Feb 11-15th (and passing them with 80% or above accuracy) will win a party in the library.
  • Guest Readers- classes will be inviting guest readers throughout the week.
  • Characters on Parade- students may dress as a book character on Friday the 15th.  Please NO MASKS OR WEAPONS.  The parade will start at 1:45 in the gym.

These activities are designed to share the love of reading and explore as many books as possible.  Please read with your child each day and encourage them to participate in the “I Love to READ !” week activities.

Thank you,
Tracy Taylor
